Grand Final Euphoria 2009, SMA dwiwarna

shame, we lost embarrassingly in Final. we don't realize how suck the final was, yet it is really shame when we knew about it. Wrong direction, Bad packaging, and lame justification (at that time even we didn't know what justification is)
When we asked for assessment one of the adjudicator come and offered himself to coach us

His name is Ahmad Naufal Da'i from UI and he started to coach us.
Thursday, February 26th 2009 was our very first meeting. It was the day that we have dreamed about. because since English Club was established in my school, even when its name was SMAN 1 Serpong (well known as SMAN 1 Cisauk and Now SMAN 2 Tangerang Selatan) we haven't had any coach but seniors. and we were a conventional debaters, means we just join a competition when we got the invitation yet we were noone at that time in debating. Yes, our seniors have joined ISDC as representative of Banten due to it has lack of experienced debaters (or even all conventional debaters at that time).
He came bring nothing but Magic. at the first meeting he explained the basic of debating that we don't know. he explain how to make a good elaboration, how to set the case and how to rebuttal other arguments. Just one meeting he successfully bring Champion title to us in ED.com (see my post about ED.com). we successfully beaten CC, Smukie bandung, even the host 14 Jakarta whose were all 3rd graders. we got some compliment from adju about our elaboration. We really grateful has a coach

last but not least help Salsa and Detta Grabbing Gold Medal in ISDC for top 15 bestspeakers.
achievements for himself is more awesome. He won Founders Trophy 2009, IVED 2009, also runner-up NUEDC 2010 and many others.

Yet that are not the only thing that make me respect him. although he looks messy and awkward outside he has one admirable attitude that maybe only few people know about it. He struggle to coach us. FYI from Depok to my school takes at least 2 hours with train. And he has to take 2 trains and transit in Stasiun Jakarta kota. Everytime he coach us he has to trough long way and takes a lot of time but his payment isn't as that much. He always said that his objection to coach isn't money but it is for himself. We really enjoy having coach like him. we weren't just training but also having fun. Recent training has an interesting pattern. we spend 10 hours for training *ehm* 6 hours for the real training and 4 hours to have fun. usually we go to cinema or Karaoke.

Every meeting has its end. Naufal step down from coach position since my junior lost in Binus e comp 2010. Actually there is a promise betweeen them. Naufal would step down if they didn't make it as champion and they didn't. Shit sometimes happens.
But nothing to be grieve about. We shouldn't sad because it end, yet we should feel happy because we have meet even so short..

SEF ITB, my new Home in Debatopia

morning in 1st September 2010,
a Message that come into my cellphone enough to make me jump and scream like a girl. I was accepted in Student English Forum ITB!
After through 3 meetings of initiation program, compete with 290 candidates now another target has been accomplished. Sure it's not an end. It is the beginning of new world for me.
Another level of debatopia just unlocked. It's a varsity level! Let me review what happened in the initiation program.

day-1
The first meeting of SEF. all candidates was separated into 8 small groups. Each group was accompanied by one or two mentor(s). my mentor was Marsha. we got a job to pick 2 Brands that we like or dislike and we have to convince the others to feel the same on that Brand. we were given 1 minute to explain why we like/dislike that brand. This is a fun initiation program because you might find vary reason of liking/disliking a brand. sometimes there are some people who explain brands that compete each other. for example (in my group) one people chosen McD and the other choose KFC. it led to a conspiracy debate behind both brands. I was taking Power Ranger as my Brand :p I explain how good power rangers as our role model due to 2 reasons. 1st they are college students just like us yet they can manage their time well so they can juggle between study and fight. the 2nd they have influence all over the world. everyone (who have happy childhood) They must know about power rangers!
The Thing that we can take from this program was How to convince people. In debate we have to convince the adjudicators about the case that we brought.

day-2
Again we were separated into small group. But the task was different. we were in case of almost-sinking-ship and there just one Life Jacket. So, we had to take role as character that have been mentioned by our mentor. we can picked one from the list given. there were names such Ariel peterporn, Lady Gaga, Tiger woods, Megawati, Adam Lambert, etc. actually it was the day when Grand Final PEDC was held, right beside ITB (sabuga). so i couldn't enjoy it very much. (I did enjoy the Final and after-Final-Party in PEDC, that I described in my previous post Debatopia: World of debating)
The thing comes from this program was how we analyze nature and character of something and compare it to another to prove which one is the best.
There was another task in that day. We were given a paper written some case and we have to justify the action was done in that case.There were question about Genocide, Right of the defendant, gay marriage,etc. It was the test for how we justify something

day-3
Last day of initiation. Again we were separated into small groups and we have groups discussion and some modified-debating-system. 3 groups debated in a match but despite having opp-gov team we consider team from stakeholders. so in the motion of Corporal punihment, there are 3 stakeholders consist of Parents who agree of it, Parent who don't agree and Teacher who agree. But before the discussion was started, all HS debaters was called and notified to be more silent in the discussion in order to let non-HS debaters think and show their skill.
The point of this program was how we see a case from one stakeholder point of view and other point of view.

well, It just a beginning of New Level in Debatopia. I have opened its gate and The first destination that I saw is NEWBIE COMPETITION!
